DATA SHREDDING
Genesis Networks offers Data Shredding as part of our information security professional services portfolio. In a world of business competition, regulatory and legal requirements, data owners are responsible to ensure business sensitive and entrustred customers' information is kept securely. Sensitive stored information needs to be dispose of in a proper and secure fashion.
Normal deletion of data from hard disks via the operating system removes only the pointers to the file location. With software and hardware tools, information can be retrieved easily from these data stores.
We offer 3 kinds of data shredding services:
1. SoftShred
SoftShred makes use of US DoD (Department of Defense) recognised and accredited software utility to render any feasible methods to read these stored data impossible. It writes random patterns of information throughout the media locations. Genesis performs a maximum of 3 passes for a single media.
SoftShred will enable the media to be reused. It is recommended for end of lease hardware, employees owned hardware when they resigned from the organisation or rented equipment. SoftShred is a time consuming process compared to HardShred.
2. HardShred
A degausser generates very strong magnetic fields to erase stored information on magnetic media like tapes and hard disks. HardShred electronically destroys magnetic organisation and orientation of particles on tapes and disk platters.
Degaussing hard disks would erase the factory written magnetic servo signals and leave the media unusable. Genesis makes use of a four passes method - 2 passes, with a 90 degree rotation for the second pass, and the process then repeat the process with the media turned upside down.
3. CrushShred
Physically destroying media may be the surest way of getting rid of confidential data. However, improper destruction may mean at times, information leakage. CrushShred can be executed using heavy furnace, for tape media or metal crushers for hard disks.
Genesis recommends HardShred followed by CrushShred to give double added assurances that the data storage media have been completely destroyed. Special processes will be undertaken for different types of media.
Optional On-Site or Off-Site Disposal Services

Off-site disposal services are conducted at the highly secure disposal centre.
